Redmond plays catch-up with Spanning Salesforce but leaves open a 12-month window of opportunity for other CRM rivals.
Following the release of Spanning Salesforce 2.0, which RSS-enables Salesforce.com, Microsoft has announced that it intends to RSS-enable its own CRM applications. The announcement was made at the Microsoft Business Summit by James Utzschneider, General Manager for Microsoft's Small & Midmarket Solutions and Partners Group. InfoWorld reports that the technology will be demonstrated at the summit today and will be incorporated into the company's various CRM products "in the next 12 months, definitely," according to Utzschneider.
Microsoft's announcement underscores ZDNet Editor-in-Chief Dan Farber's assertion that, "By the end of this year, CRM and other enterprise applications that don't offer standard RSS feeds will be a big step behind."
